O romance de estreia de Gisela Rodriguez, Entre a Neve e o Deserto (Libretos, 249 páginas), retrata a jornada de três jovens que mergulham em uma trip pelo deserto, onde buscam experiências literárias, tendo como bússola os textos de seus heróis, os escritores malditos, como Arthur Rimbaud e Jack Kerouac, entre outros.
Narrada sob a ótica do protagonista, Gabriel, um adolescente rebelde, arisco e
provocador, a história viaja na batida de bandas de rock, vivências com drogas
e crises existenciais. E tem como fio condutor a culpa vivida pelo jovem, após
passar por uma experiência traumática. As revelações sobre esse passado
turbulento, acontecem durante as sessões de terapia.
O escritor Pedro Gonzaga, no texto de apresentação, considera instigante a
linguagem direta adotada pela autora: “O livro surpreende pela força dos
diálogos e pelo conflito que muitas vezes se ergue às custas de Gabriel não
ceder à falsidade das máscaras sociais. Misto de viagem interior e exterior, Entre

Between the Snow and the Desert
A novel that brings together adventure and
existentialism, rock and social criticism, teenage dreams and real dilemmas of
characters who cannot fit into conventional routine. Gisela Rodriguez’s first
novel, Between the Snow and the Desert,
tells the journey of three youngsters who dive into a literary and existential
trip driven by the writings of their heroes, accursed writers Arthur Rimbaud,
Jack Kerouac, and Gregory Corso, among others.
A first-person narrative by protagonist Gabriel, a
rebellious, standoffish and provocative teenager, the story travels on rock
band beats, experiences with hallucinogenic drugs to develop writing, and
existential crises centered around the boy’s feelings of guilt after going
through a traumatic experience. On the opening text, writer Pedro Gonzaga
mentions the language adopted in the novel is instigating. “The book is
impressive in its powerful dialogs and in the conflicts that arise, many times,
from Gabriel’s not giving in to the falsehood of social masks. A combination of
internal and external trips, this book approaches one of the topics dearest to
literature since its dawn: the impossibility of finding an identity compatible
with that which others project onto us, and which is almost always in
confrontation with what we would, in fact, like to be; almost always
destructive to more sensitive souls, condemning them to an
exclusion likened to exile”, he comments.
Gisela Rodriguez
Actress, director and playwright Gisela graduated in
Drama at CAL (Rio de Janeiro), has taken courses in Extension in Filmmaking at
PUC (Porto Alegre); Physical Approach Corporal Expression at Cit Lit (London),
Play and Screen Writing at Academia Internacional de Cinema e TV (Rio de
Janeiro), as well as different courses in performing arts, corporal expression,
expressionist theater, martial arts, and film and theater theory.
She gathered a study group and drama laboratory under
the precepts of Grotowski and Meyerhold, which later became Nômade Theater Group
in Porto Alegre. She was also the vocalist for psychedelic punk band Projeto
Uivo (in homage to Allen Ginsberg). Her second book Desordem, of poetry, will be released in the second half of 2014,
containing photographs by Fernanda Chemale.
